DiSC and Pre-Competency Assessment Steps

DiSC Workplace Assessment

The DiSC Workplace Assessment provides valuable insight into who you are and how you lead. You will use the assessment report throughout the program. There is a sample DiSC email (*below) so you know what to expect. It will come from HRD Leadership <hrdleadership@wiley-epic.com>.


The assessment takes less than 20 minutes to complete. You will need to complete your assessment by June 11 and you will have immediate access to your results upon completion. Once completed, please review your DiSC Assessment report (pages 2-7).

Pre-Competency Assessment

The pre-competency assessment will establish a baseline for your confidence and competence-level on a variety of

leadership competencies. Please watch for an email from hrdprograms@hrdleadership.com via SurveyMonkey <member@surveymonkeyuser.com>. The pre-assessment takes less than 10 minutes to complete. Please complete by June 11.



Pre-Work for Giving and Receiving Feedback

July 16

  • Meet with your accountability partner. Discuss:
  • Take-aways from Above the Line.
  • Strengths/Opportunities from your DiSC report
  • Meet with your manager. 
  • Work on your Leadership Mission.


Pre-Work for Leading through Conflict

August 21

  • Give the feedback (positive & constructive) you identified you need to give.​
  • Watch The Secret to Giving Great Feedback – Ted Talk
  • Meet with your accountability partner to discuss both items, using the guided questions:
  • Based on the Ted Talk, The Secret to Giving Great Feedback, what insights did you gain about how you’ve been giving feedback in the past and how you can improve your approach to offering feedback in the future?
  • How did the feedback conversations go?
  • What did you learn about how you might approach it differently next time?
  • Continue work on your Leadership Mission.


Pre-Work for Accountability and Ownership

September 17

  • Practice stepping back (employ the 5-second rule!) and reframing your automatic thoughts. Be prepared to share an example of doing so in our next workshop.
  • Choose two productive conflict behaviors to focus on (one you’re already good at, and one you’d like to cultivate).
  • Listen to Reframing Your Reality (Part 1): Episode from Hidden Brain podcast.
  • Meet with your accountability partners and discuss the following questions:
  • What was your favorite example from the podcast about how our mindset (i.e., how we frame our reality) impacts our decisions and interactions with others?
  • How can you put this insight to use in your professional role?


Pre-Work for Communication in Leadership

October 21

  • Complete the mid-point survey.
  • Have the accountability conversation you need to have. Be prepared to share wins, challenges, and lessons learned next time!
  • Continue to work on your Leadership Mission.


Pre-Work for Leading through Change

November 18

  • Practice using your new brain-based tools: Analogies, Questions, and Enriched Environments.
  • Be prepared to share at least 2 examples next time of how you have done so.
  • Listen to Quick Thinks: All Effective Communication Must Start With This (Episode 25 of Think Fast, Talk Smart) and meet with your accountability partner to discuss these questions:
  • What connections do you see between the questions Matt Abrahams (the podcast host) suggests you should ask of your audience or listener and the information you’ve learned in our workshop about the importance of connecting to someone’s prior experience in order to communicate effectively?


Pre-Work for Post-Assessment and Making Commitments (Graduation)

January 2026

  • Meet with your Accountability Partner and discuss the following questions:
  • How can you find out how your team members are reacting to change?
  • How do you plan to leverage the Journey Through Change and Switch framework to help your team members navigate change more effectively? (Be specific!)
  • Finalize your Leadership Mission! Submit here by December 18.
  • Be prepared to share a little about it in our final workshop.
  • Complete the post-competency assessment by December 18 (link will be emailed to you).
  • Meet with your Capstone groups and begin working on your Capstones for presentation at January’s Graduation! Instructions to submit your presentation will be sent from hrdprograms@hrdleadership.com.
