Pre-Work for Leadership Mindset & Review Pre-assessment Data Workshop

August 12

  • Complete the Pre-Competency Assessment (information below)
  • Complete your DiSC Assessment (information below) and review your DiSC Assessment report (pgs. 1-6)
  • Meet with your Accountability Partner. Discuss the following questions:
  • What do you want to get out of this leadership-development process? Name at least one specific outcome.
  • Name at least TWO takeaways or “a-ha” moments from Above the Line, Below the Line (linked so you can watch it again).
  • How does your mindset impact your leadership influence?
  • What can you do to foster an above-the-line mindset in yourself when you dip below the line?

DiSC Management Assessment

The DiSC Management Assessment provides valuable insight into who you are and how you lead. You will use the assessment report throughout the program. There is a sample DiSC email (*below) so you know what to expect. It will come from HRD Leadership <hrdleadership@wiley-epic.com>.


The assessment takes less than 20 minutes to complete. You will need to complete your assessment by August 7 and you will have immediate access to your results upon completion. Once completed, please review your DiSC Assessment report (pages 1-6).

Pre-Work for Getting to Know Your Team to Build Trust Workshop

August 26

  • Share your DiSC style with your team and manager.
  • Watch Find Your Why (Simon Sinek)
  • Meet with your Accountability Partner and discuss the following questions:
  • What is your authentic reaction to the Simon Sinek video? What’s your WHY? How can you use that to inform your Leadership Mission?
  • Begin talking NOW about your Leadership Mission. What questions do you have?
  • What strengths and opportunities for growth do you see in your DiSC report?
  • Work on your Leadership Mission.


Pre-Work for Communication on the Front Line Workshop

September 2

  • Plot your team members on the DiSC wheel (in handout), and answer the questions about gaps, strengths, and tensions. 
  • Complete the Action Plan for Success in your handouts.​
  • Watch The Golden Rule Goes Platinum (Angela McMillan/TedX)
  • Meet with your accountability partner to discuss the following questions :
  • What actions are you planning to adapt communication to someone else’s DiSC style?
  • What obstacles are you planning ahead for?
  • How did insights from Angela McMillan’s TedX talk help inform these choices? ​
  • Continue working on your Leadership Mission.


Pre-Work for Giving Feedback in the Moment Workshop

October 14

  • Complete the mid-point survey
  • Practice using your new brain-based tools: Analogies, Questions, and Enriched Environments.
  • Be prepared to share at least 2 examples next time of how you have done so.
  • Listen to Quick Thinks: All Effective Communication Must Start With This (Episode 25 of Think Fast, Talk Smart) and meet with your accountability partner to discuss these questions:
  • What connections do you see between the questions Matt Abrahams (the podcast host) suggests you should ask of your audience or listener and the information you’ve learned in our workshop about the importance of connecting to someone’s prior experience in order to communicate effectively?



Pre-Work for Addressing Conflict on the Floor Workshop

October 28

  • Give the piece(s) of feedback you need to give.
  • Meet with your accountability partner to discuss both items, using the guided questions:
  • How did the feedback conversations go?
  • What did you learn about how you might approach it differently next time?
  • Continue to work on your Leadership Mission


Pre-Work for Navigating Change on the Floor Workshop

November 12

  • Practice stepping back (employ the 5-second rule!) and reframing your automatic thoughts.
  • Be prepared to share an example next time!
  • Be thinking about a change you are currently navigating or one you may navigate soon.


Pre-Work for Post-Assessment Review and Celebration Workshop

December 2

  • Complete the Switch Change Framework for the change you identified.
  • Meet with your Accountability Partner and discuss the following questions:
  • How can you find out how your team members are reacting to change?
  • How do you plan to leverage the Journey Through Change and Switch framework to help your team members navigate change more effectively? (Be specific!)
  • Finalize your Leadership Mission! You will be prompted to send it to HRDPrograms@hrdleadership.com.
  • Be prepared to share a little about it in our final workshop.
  • Complete the post-competency assessment (link will be emailed to you).
  • Deadline to submit post-competency assessment AND your leadership mission: Nov. 26.
